Dahat Elementary School HISTORY:

Prior to the opening of formal education in the barangay, there was a night school at the residence of Mr. Vicente Valencia. Residents attending classes at the Poblacion were taught English by Aurelio Valencia, the brother. While those not attending classes were given caton lessons. Residents aging from 15 and above attended the said informal instruction.

From the information gathered through interviews, the formal education started in the year more or less 1930. One concrete building was constructed at the center of the barangay through the efforts of Primitivo Rivero. According to record, a portion of the lot was donated by Pedro Israel and the other portion was purchased by the PTA. It has an area of 6, 900 sq. meters. A combination classes of Grades I and II was opened with an enrolment of 47 pupils, all of them were average. The primer teacher was Mr. Plaza.       As the years went by, the growth of enrolment was so rapid because of the feeder barangays; Himagtocon, Gubat and Amoguis. Several buildings were constructed through the efforts of the PTA and of a concerned citizen in the name of Mr. Ambrosio P. Pena. Number of classes were increased by opening Grades V and VI, working it complete elementary school, under Mr. Innumberables Dialogo Jr., the head teacher then promoted to principal position. The first Grade VI class was under Mr. Albert Cledera. The first graduation was in March 1962.

Dahat Elementary School has nine (9) school buildings composed of 12 academic classrooms and two - instructional room which is being utilized as the school library and principals office. Out of nine buildings, five of them need repair particularly on roofing, ceilings, windows. One 3 room Marcos Type Building was newly repaired by the UNICEF Safe School Project Trenches III.

Ten (10) classrooms have facilities such as Comfort Rooms while 100% of the classrooms have electricity and water facilities.

There are twelve (12) classes from Grade I - VI and two organized Kindergarten classes. It has only ten (10) nationally-funded teaching personnel and two (2) preschool teachers under MOA. There are three (3) vacant items due to retirement.

For the past few years, Dahat Elementary School was a low performing school in the district, but lately pupil's performance improved, because teachers struggle to do their best to improve the achievement of the pupils by using varied instructional materials as well as appropriate teaching strategies, remedial instruction, and review classes on Saturdays.

The school head tries to monitor academic and non-academic instructions and assist teachers on instructions and classroom management; but because of too much paperwork, trainings, seminars, conferences these have not been done religiously.

One of the prime movers of the school is the partnership and cooperation among parents, teachers and community. As a proof to this, every year a number of projects are realized through the initiative and active participation of these people.

At present, the school has thirteen (13) teachers under a Principal with an enrolment of 416 pupils.
